With around 400 breweries in Ohio, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by all of the options. I want to shine a spotlight on great neighborhood breweries that are less commonly highlighted in our Columbus beer scene. These gems offer a variety of delicious brews, while allowing you and your friends to easily grab a table. Read on to learn more about what could be your new go-to.

You’ll find 2 Tones in an unassuming storefront on East Broad Street in Whitehall. A small parking lot and picnic tables outside, with a simple sign indicate you’ve arrived. Inside, you’ll find a clean and simple taproom with a fun beer and space-themed mural. 

On my recent visit, regulars to the taproom greeted each other, enjoying a pint with friends. Even the four-legged patrons were known by name in this dog-friendly space.

The draft list at 2 Tones is diverse, offering a year round variety that stands in opposition to recent seasonal trends, from lager to porter, IPA, and the flagship Uncle Joe’s Irish Red Ale.

I enjoyed a sampling of beers, and here is some of what you can expect:

Crumble Vanilla Ale– This popular option has a mouthwatering vanilla custard scent. I found that it had an initial sweetness and cinnamon flavor that matched with the smell, but also a bit of tartness I wasn’t expecting.

Toasted Tones Lager– Don’t let the amber color fool you, this lager tasted crisp and clear with a light body. The toasted flavor wasn’t too strong, and this could be a good gateway beer for anyone easing into craft beers.

About a Month IPA- A lemony, citrusy, hazy IPA with lots of flavor from the hops, yet not too much bitterness. 

Space Punch DIPA- An incredibly fragrant beer, I tasted a big hit of bold flavor, starting with an initial sweetness, balanced with juicy orange and tropical flavors. The hops slide into the finish with a zingy hit in the back of the palate.

Wait till Mom Finds Out Sour- A ruby-colored glass of tart flavor, packing mouth puckering cherry flavor into each sip.
